Top Bridal Picks of 2014, Autumn Edition

by: Jessica Duke, Unstitched and Fabulous
As I entered the bright and airy mezzanine of the Business Design Centre in Islington, a feeling of calm and excitement washed over me. Not just because the space was so stunning architecturally, but because it was playing host to one of the most renowned/memorable shows on the bridal calendar: Brides the Show.

The autumn edition of this spectacular bridal function took place from the 3rd to the 5th October and was a must have outing for any bride-to-be. Having had the pleasure of working alongside a wonderful team at the previous Spring edition in Battersea, I was looking forward to seeing what was in store for the autumn edition, and boy was I in for a treat! Under the barrel-vaulted roof were a variety of bridal experts, from esteemed professionals on hand to provide the latest up-to-date bridal trends, to those offering a helping hand in planning each and every aspect of your day. The exhibitors ranged from cake couturiers and florists to dress designers and luxury travel specialists, shoe designers to venue decorators and everything in-between. Bobbi Brown gave us bridal make-up tutorials whilst guests sipped champagne from the exclusive Laurent-Perrier bar and browsed the endless rails of bridal excellence. Not forgetting the incredible Imagination Room that saw guests go back to the classroom and try their hand at creating bespoke bridal treats!

I attended the event this time as a visitor, taking the chance to invite my newly engaged cousin and all the family to join in with the bridal show festivities. As soon as I entered the venue, I knew instantly that it was going to be a show to remember. A girly-girl at heart, it was refreshing to see so much talent under one roof, and inspiring to hear from each exhibitor about their bridal brand. Many came from far and wide to exhibit, whilst others were bridal show regulars, but each and every one put their own stamp on their stand and made it theirs. I set about selecting a few I thought may be of particular interest to brides-to-be everywhere, looking for something unique but fun for their big day. Let the Best of Bridal Autumn edition commence!

TOP PICK NUMBER 1 - The Dress!

On my top five list of bridal brands this season, it had to be Halfpenny London taking the vintage gown crown. Having worked for a few bridal boutiques myself, I can personally guarantee that the dress is one of the most important aspects of any brides big day – but you knew that anyway, right? Halfpenny London is a beautiful bridal couture brand established in 2005 by celebrity stylist and costume designer Kate Halfpenny. Her designs feature a raw and delicate aesthetic, combining a love for lace with simple yet stunning silhouettes and made-to-measure tailoring. Reviving British hand-made, Kate’s seamstress spoke of the love and attention that goes into creating a gown from start to finish, with every bride able to make their dream dress a reality. I was mesmerised by the delicacy of each dress and the intricate layers and embellishment that adorned them. It was clear to see why Halfpenny London is such a bridal favourite, with a few of their gowns making their way onto the English Rose catwalk – a perfect setting for such a solid and elegant British bridal brand!

TOP PICK NUMBER 2 - The Cake!

The cake can make or break your big day so it’s only right that it compliments you and your husband-to-be’s combined tastes. Daisy Cakes proved a popular destination for such edible goodies, with their free vanilla samples offering a heavenly insight into their magical creations. Providing bespoke wedding cakes from their studio in Greenwich, Daisy Cakes stunning designs use only the finest ingredients and are decorated to the highest standards. If you want a focal point, a cake that reflects you both as a couple and just happens to taste incredible, then Daisy Cakes is for you. Inspiration comes from every aspect of your wedding plans, and the creation of a flawless centerpiece is guaranteed. I didn’t realise cakes could be so beautiful!

TOP PICK NUMBER 3 - The Stationery!

It’s always hard for me to choose just one fabulous brand from a category. This year, Eagle Eyed Bride returned with an incredible stationery stand and so it would be a sin not the mention them again! Combining a cool and contemporary feel with coordinated products, their ethos and brand identity is definitely beautiful, stylish and fun! With quirky innovative ideas, such as cute placecards with laser-cut detailing, Eagle Eyed Bride have it all going on. I just love the colours and styles of their designs and with the added bonus of being fashion forward and constantly on the pulse, they are certainly a strong contender for any bridal stationery, the pastel colours were on point too – check them out here!

Ivy Ellen is my new choice for thoroughly modern bridal stationery with a sophisticated twist. With simple, playful designs, it is easy to customise your invitations in any way you choose! I really love their use of typography and clean lines – plus the company is ran by husband and wife team Jo and Jeremy and named in memory of Jo’s grandmother, double ahh! Check their stationery out here if you want something personal to you and thoroughly unique!

TOP PICK NUMBER 4 - The Flowers!

Floral displays are one thing that can really put your own stamp on your wedding. Amongst the floral stands at Brides the show, all vying for the best exhibit with their over-the-top displays, was Amie Bone. Granted their stand was very eccentric, with all colours of the rainbow included, it did the one thing they wanted and grabbed the attention of passers by – including myself. I believe flowers are a romantic gesture, a statement of thoughtfulness and love. Amie Bone communicated just this with their display of deep red and pink flowers, protruding out from the centerpiece and up into the ceiling of the stand, giving a sense of enchantment and magic. Allbeit not entirely what you’d choose for a wedding, it made you realise how exciting floral arrangements can be and notice Amie Bone for the floral experts they are. Incredibly beautiful in every way and offering a unique, fresh and bespoke service with special attention to detail, it was easy to get overwhelmed with all the possibilities! Take a look at their stunning website here.

TOP PICK NUMBER 5 - The Photographer!

Looking for the right photographer to capture your special day? Look no further than Dottie Photography. A little mad and perhaps unconventional in parts, their photography captures that raw essence of love and fun, the memories you want to be able to look back on and think wow, that’s what it really felt like! I was honestly captivated by each and every picture, never thinking wedding photography could be so adventurous but still so traditional. Creatively balanced, their compositions are faultless, ideas endless and talent unquestionable. Call me a romantic, but wonderful little things happen every day and on your wedding day, you want to remember them. You can be reassured that these two loveable ladies will reassure and guide you through each moment, each feeling and capture it in a way that reflects you as a couple. Dottie Photography captures those wonderful moments effortlessly and makes them a reality. Mesmerizing in ever way, the depth and emotion of one of their photographs is unexplainable. Ok, I know things can easily tug at my heart strings but seriously, I felt teary eyed just flicking through their book! They have the recipe for the perfect photographs – a great working relationship, a kind and reassuring personality and a crazy and lovable approach to photography! Stamp the fun into your album with some great keepsakes here.
